The Truth About Kids Soccer Drills

Let me tell you that in kids soccer drills, there are certain blunders that coaches make which reduce their teams to rubble and bring it down. Yes, that’s correct. Many of you must be thinking that how can there be something so big that can destroy a team. Okay then, let it be known that reasons are countless.

You will have to work very watchfully and advantageously in designing soccer drills for kids. It’s very important for you know the kid’s psychology. Talk to the kids in a manner that they find most suitable. But it’s really sad that a lot of coaches are still untrained to get used to this. They fail to realize that there is a distinction in coaching kids and coaching grown-up players.

So this is it; let me share some blunders that coaches make which reduce their teams to rubble.

1. Several coaches don’t take their jobs seriously. They do not plan the sessions, prepare the drills, or bother about reaching the field in time. These qualities are not just unacceptable and also upset the kids. You cannot be non-serious when the kids take soccer so seriously. Put together the youth soccer drills ahead of time. Any equipment required to execute the drills should be assembled in advance.

Be punctual. Make it a point to reach the field earlier than the kids. Well in fact, grace the filed with your presence when kids reach. It has the advantage of finding some extra time to practice the drills and plan other things.

2. When coaches give instructions for kids soccer drills, they get so carried away by their emotions that they keep going on and on. Can you anticipate how boring that can get? You must realize that players are more interested in playing than hearing. Keep the lecture short and sweet. Use this talk to motivate the kids and increase their confidence.

Also, do not interrupt the kids when they are playing. If you have noted anything wrong, share it after the drill has ended. Also, stay out of the field when the kids are practicing.

3. Some coaches tend to get emotional or abusive with the players. In soccer drills for youth, this can prove to be catastrophic. It is bad to display weak behaviour on the soccer field. It is imperative that the kids will make mistakes. Do not forget that they are children. There is no need to get sensitive about it and be rude to the players.

If this happens, you can drive the kids away from the game. Soccer is played in the mind more than from the body. Help the kids understand this so that they get inspired by you.

Quite possible you may not agree with me on this, but still, lend me your ears. There is a huge difference in the techniques adopted in kids soccer drills to train kids in comparison to those who are in high school or college. Because the kids are exposed to everything for the first time and young players, on the other hand young players have experienced this many times before.

But, there are certain methods that can be used in soccer drills for kids which will help them become exceptional soccer players. Always remember that kids would love to play the game only for so long as it interests them. They’ll begin to avoid playing soccer in case they don’t like it. Kids try to find ways to disintegrate with the sport. So have patience and don’t make them feel obligated to play.

A lot of kids like playing the game because it’s fun whereas many other play for the sake of their parents. Neither of them feels motivated by rewards or recognition. In kids soccer drills, coaches have a tendency to overlook this aspect. They press them hard to achieve the daily targets in terms of performance level, physical stamina and skills. Nevertheless, be alert with this exercise. Don’t be harsh with the kid. He should not be left alone to himself. For example, a healthy penalty would be to keep the kid from being a part of the training sessions.

In kids soccer drills, I’m not sure if you know this but someone who’s familiar with the game of soccer knows the importance of dribbling. It’s the technique of moving in the ground while retaining the possession of the ball. To begin with, kids are trained on this very skill of dribbling.

But how do you decide the level of its significance in the game. If you want your kids to develop dribbling skills, regular drills are the best thing to do. It teaches the kids the basic movements to drive the ball well. Dribbling the ball by keeping it close to you is used to develop the ability to get ahead of several opponents without losing control of the ball.

There are some basic rules to follow and some quality time need to be spent with the ball to be a top dribbler. The ability to use the face of their foot is taught in kids soccer drills. It is the front side of their instep that kids use very frequently when they dribble the ball at a great speed.

Still, it’s important for you to see that the kids mater the skill of applying both their feet’s interior and exterior parts in dribbling. Players in youth soccer drills should be taught to vary the speed. In order to overpower the opponents, the kids need not be extremely fast in dribbling the ball. Alternatively, get the defender to slumber a little and move past the opponent at high speed.

Lead the young players to always stay aware of the ball’s movement. Kids must keep an eye on the playing field and concentrate on the ball while dribbling.

Guide them in bettering their weak foot. Ensure that the soccer drills for youth consists of the practice of hitting the ball against the wall with the weak foot to effect it’s slow but steady improvement. It’s amazing to see that the value of warming up in kids soccer drills is underestimated. Being a coach, I’d let it be known that warming up is not only compulsory but is even critical to begin the day’s play at a brighter and healthier note. This issue is conveniently ignored as unimportant by the coaches in youth soccer drills. The consequences are then faced by the players when they suffer injuries in training.

This article will provide you an insight into warming up techniques for the team. Teach the players to warm up by following those body movements that help all muscles to work up. This is the most effective way to liven up all muscles in the body. If the movements are intense, body could become stiff or develop cramps.

Tip 1: First and foremost the players should jog for 5-7 minutes. It’s advisable to begin with a light jog and then move on to sprinting. Check that the pulse rate in this reaches 120 beats per minute. Yet, the rate should increase gradually. After this, the players should move their legs back and forth for around 10 minutes each. To conclude, the players should vigorously stretch their body more than 20 yards.

Tip 2: Having said that, do remember that even this active stretching over 20 yards comes with some warm up drills of its own. Like the players can bounce backward and forward. Also teach your players to do cross stepping. High-knee carioca can also be taught to players. These must be executed as if sprinting.

These give an extra dimension to the skipping exercises. The players can also be told to do cross-over bounce. Quick Hip Swings is somewhat difficult to practice but it highly useful and a tried and tested technique to warm up the body.

After that, have the players do the long shuffles along with twists halfway. The players should be made to practice moving their legs backward and forward. This is a highly effective and useful body toning activity. In the same way, high leg forwards and backwards is also very effective.

Tip 4: Stretching should be carried out properly and sufficiently. The legs benefit the most out of stretch hinge. Ensure that every kid works out hamstring, quadriceps, groin and calf without exceptions. Stretching not only prevents injury but also increases the range of the muscles.

Kids Soccer Drills: Want To Know how To Warm Up

It’s sad to know that people fail to appreciate the importance of warming up in kids soccer drills. It is obligatory for me as a coach to highlight the fact that warm up sessions before practice is compulsory and helps players begin their day at a brilliant note. In youth soccer drills, coaches fail to take this aspect into consideration. The consequences are then faced by the players when they suffer injuries in training.

You will find some great tips on warming up your team before practice sessions. The team should be guided to use such body movements that have the effect of warming up all muscles. This is the most effective way to liven up all muscles in the body. Doing things fast can lead to cramps or stiffness in the muscles.

Tip 1: This requires the players to do an easy 5-7 minutes jog. It’s advisable to begin with a light jog and then move on to sprinting. In this, the pulse rate should reach 120 beats per minute. Tip 4: Stretching should be carried out properly and sufficiently. Stretch hinging is most beneficial for the legs.
