Understand this! To coach youth soccer, it is a challenge to be creative and come up with innovative tips and techniques to train the kids. In teaching soccer, it is a huge stress to keep innovating new tricks to make soccer drills enjoyable for kids.
Following are some drills that you can teach youth soccer players. These help them play the game well and have fun at the same time.
Employ the players to do dribbling and shooting: This is an easy drill that helps all the players practice at the same time. Make the players stand on a single goal line. Now, spread the balls all over the soccer field. Then, tell the kids to move with the ball towards the opposition’s goal in an attacking position. They should also hit the ball as soon as they get a chance.
This workout helps the kids build their stamina, confidence and also improves their dribbling skills. As the players do not have any opposing players, it makes them showcase their personal styles too.
How to pass the ball: Ask the kids to stand in a line at a far-away corner of the field. Tell them to run towards you as fast as possible as soon as you have finished counting till 3. While they are running towards you, they also need to steal the ball from the other player who is kicking the ball. When you say stop, the player who has the ball must pass it to another player.
When you coach youth soccer, these games make the kids showcase their best skills in passing and dribbling. This way, the players also learn a very important skill of snatching the ball from other players.
Touch and Go: It’s a very interesting game which kids love to play. Make the young players stand in two queues not more than 40 feet from the goal post. Besides, the goalpost should be defended by the goalie. Situate yourself in between these two queues.
You pass the ball to one line and subsequently coach them to shoot or pass the ball with one stroke only. The objective should be to attack the goal. Continue practicing the game after the goalie has returned the ball.
In case of two or more than two goalies in team, they should be rotated between practice sessions. This sport enables players to perk up their shooting skills through team effort. The goalkeeper becomes skilled at protecting the ball from converting to a goal.
Keeping the control of the ball: This exercise allows the players to learn to advance with the ball while retaining its control. Play with two people where one becomes the attacker and another, the protector. The players should then to told to proceed as per their part and try to get a point every time by leading another player.
